Nobody beats the drum 'Grindin' This animation shows a unique and different way of showing animation through painted wooden rectangles. I like the effect it gives because every movement takes so much time. The colours are bright and lively. Also when the soundtrack is playing the bricks seem to sync to the song. Colours seem to also emerge into one. mirrored effect is also used to create a symetrical look.

Colourful expressions through light. This film has captured a real imaginative idea. The way in which they achieve this effect was probably using a template over the lens. Its simple however effective. The music brings it to life with a fast pace song. The goes well because it fits with the whole movement within the sequel. I personally like this because its such an easy idea that I personally would have never thought of. The composition and lighting really does combine well.
This video of a mirror that's angled to make it look like an optical allusion or even a kaleidoscope which has an infinity way of looking at objects and things because when two mirrors are opposite one another it creates this look. The people who made this film crammed in a lot of animals into one space and at first the mice don't make you feel like this is going to be as good as it did turn out when all the wildlife was thrown into it. It did look like an art piece towards the end because of the different colours of the animals. also the animals created a shape in which they formed a circular shape which reflected an unusual image for the audience to view. I actually found this intriguing to watch because I was always waiting for what type of animal would enter next. Overall I think this is a very clever yet simple idea.
Write up about advertising:
Advertising has many different stages before its actually produced and made into a great advert. For an idea the people behind it have to come up with a reasonably good idea and brief it with other members of the group. When briefing an idea, the idea will be drawn up scruffy and then when the one idea that stands out the most it will be produced in a better quality.
o2 made an advert to give the audience in which is a bubble to join that can create a certain amount of freedom and oxygen with the o2 network. They made an advert where the bubble bounced on everyday things such as, gates, wood, etc and the bubble would bend a smile into the object that it bounced off. The executive team had a certain amount of days to make a solid and memorable advert that would draw in an audience to buy the network and mobile phones.
Phones 4 U
Phones 4 U has a very memorable advert which some people may knock the word out and say that its 'cringe worthy' however ever 'scary Mary' captures an amount of humour that people find funny and entertaining. When we first see scary Mary she is scared about running up her bill losing her phone etc. The Man behind the scary Mary idea thought that this idea could make people buy the products that the company sell. Although this advert is weird audiences will feel a certain amount of conviction to buy the products. Phones 4 U is one of the biggest UK leading mobile phone companies so these adverts do make the general public want to buy it, however they have been creating weird yet convincing adverts for people to buy the latest blackberry or android Smartphone.
Juggling ideas: Coming together in a group makes it easier to decide which is the best and the one that catches every bodies attention. Thinking of the idea and suggesting it to either the manager or co-workers of the company. When working in advertising colleagues usually work in two's to have one drawing up all the ideas and suggestions and making it fit to their specifications. Once they agree with it they send it to the head of the advertising before pitching.
Celebrity: Many advertisers and company's will arrange to have a celebrity to publicize the product or company name. People such as David Beckham and other successful celebs will advertise the advert. The ads that have celebrities usually have a well-know appeal about them. Adidas for instance hired a lot of celebs to promote the original label for Adidas. The reason for having a celebrity can either get the company or brand out of financial trouble or just to make it popular. It gives the general public an aspiration to maybe be like their fellow favorite celebs or just to go out and buy the product because the celebrity has made it trend.
Shock tactics: Many adverts such as the smoking adverts will include small children inhaling smoke or a person who is on a ventilator and can hardly stay alive. This is just one of many that show specific harmful things that the general public need to be aware of. Anorexia is another taboo or no go area that people generally stay away from or avoid conversation about it. The anorexic advert showed a certain amount of graphic images and shocking body parts of people who are suffering with the terrible illness. This gave the public alot to talk about...and this is what the advertisers want. Its like word of mouth for them. This will strike a conversation because its interesting and shocking. The public don't want just look at an advert without even taken notice or recognition of it. The people behind the advert are very clever and in some ways manipulative to their audience.
Pitching the idea : Every aspect of pitching an idea to the people that will make it become a reality has to be perfectly done. There is no place for second chances the first has to be a perfect and convincing idea. Simple is what catches their eye because complex adverts don't work. It has to be straight to the point. Simple ideas are also easier to explain and more effective.
Cadburys Critique :
Cadburys have a slogan which is catchy and not necessarily the truth. They go by " A glass and a half of full fresh creme milk" this may not be the truth however it generates money. They are a well-known company/Brand and even so far as becoming a world wide chocolate company. Cadburys haven't had it easy in the past. They struggled because there were complaints about the chocolate having caused salmonella when the chocolate was eaten. This gave them a loss of £20 million which is a considerable amount. After all this Cadburys had to think of a method in which to make money again. The idea was not only simple, however it made people buy the 'Dairy Milk' product even more. They did this buy using advertising as there backbone and creating adverts such as, the Gorilla advert with Phil Collins 'in the air tonight' song which was catchy. People saw this advert when it first came out on British television. Cadburys did not let onto the public that the advert was coming out. When it did arrive the public became engrossed with spreading the word of the weird yet amusing advert. Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and all the other social networks were discussing these adverts especially the gorilla ad. This made Cadbury reinvent themselves. They brought out another 2 adverts with trucks racing on an airport runway. When adverts come out like this its in the imagination however they brought it to life. The profit from this was outstanding. This was viral Marketing because it created people to discuss it. It became not only a hit in the UK but countries like, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and many more. In the first week of the Gorilla ad being out for the general public ti view, Also became huge on Youtube generating an outstanding 500,000 views.
Honda Critique:
Honda is a Japanese manufacturer that mainly constructs motorcycles and cars. They are more famed for making economical cars that are good for he environment. Honda have many competitors including BMW and VW. Honda try and offer sleeker and more elegant designs on their automobiles. Honda brought out an advert which went through all the mechanical procedures to make the new Honda accord. They copied the artist who formed a sequence of objects that would work like domino's. The message that Honda try and get across to their customers is, to have a car that 'Powers the dream'. The impossible dream advert was also created to show how Honda have made their manufacturing bigger and better in the sense that cars, motorcycles are better. A man who is miming Andy Williams 'The impossible dream'. Honda maybe slightly cheesy with their catch phrases and slogans, however this sells there products. Advertisers came together to create a really unique and surprisingly nothing to do with Honda. A special team of paracliders tried to achieve spelling Honda whilst the commercial was live, and it worked. If this, however went wrong then Honda would have probably had a loss in custom. The advert was called 'Difficult is worth doing' and this shows that Honda are very spontaneous in what they aim to achieve. In my opinion Honda creating all these outstandingly good yet different adverts is trying to get across to the public that they are the best motoring and equipment manufacturers out there. Also Honda bought into a robot machine called ASTIMO and this could bring them futher into the future to create modern and unique, quality goods.
Burberry is an iconic and truly British with the traditional textures and patterns that they obtain throughout the years of it being on our highstreets. This advert shows us that the models on the front are expressing the clothing that they are trying to sell to the public. Burberry tend to use well-known models that the public can then relate to and buy because of this. Its basically like using a celebrity. Burberry is such an iconic brand that they do not really have to try as hard as cadburys to get peoples attention. However they have a huge amount of competition with leading brands throughout the world. This brand looks appealing because it the top end of fashion and alot of people want to feel trendy and well dressed. The unique tartan material or pattern that is recognised with Burberry is what people associate the brand with. Burberry don't tend to used television ads purely because they have always stuck to using posters and ad campaigns.
An introduction to subvertising:
Overthrowing some advert that is already established means that its basically mocking a well-known advert and subverting it. For instance a coca-cola advert was made into something that was in a way comical however showing different way an advert can make people feel. The coca cola advert was'nt enjoy coca cola it was subvetedly 'enjoy capitalism' which suggest that coca cola are a world wide brand that are taking over or in some cases being greedy. This is all politically minded and trying to grasp some sort of attention from the company. Many people in the advertising business say that making an existing advert into something that its not is taking away the glit and hype of the product or comapany. Although ive seen some examples of these adverts and it has'nt put me off buying more of their products. Subverting is basically a straight talking advert that is going to catch people attentions in bad or good ways. Subavds that I researched and found such as, Ryan air advert; some people drop their pants, Ryan air drops their fares. Some people look at this for the first time and probably see the humour, where as people with no sense of humour wont. In this world I personally think that adverts are taken too seriously. However cancer awareness and personal probelms with health etc need to have a certain amount of seriousness about them.
Coca-Cola; A global successful company that don't only make their Brand that is Coca-cola but they also have well-known brands like, Sprite, Oasis. The Coca-Cola brand name is reportedly worth an outstanding $48 billion. Basically a soft drinks company. They market Coke-cola with their traditional red and white Branding colours. When I or the general public look at one of these adverts of coke we instantly know what it is. The christmas advert for instance is always very distinctive because of the colouring and the advertisiers always seem to add in big trucks with Coca-cola along the side, although we know wht commercial it is. I look at Coca-Cola as a global phonomenon with a huge commercial appeal to it. I personally think that the Coca-Cola brand is one of the biggest and most well-known brands that people will recognised with in seconds of seeing a poster or commercial. They make the brand look simple with elegance.
Guiness adverts: Guiness is a Irish dry stout that is famously known for the white head on the top of the drink. The original style of the Guiness adverts have been similar since the time the brand was established. They keep to a simple however, rough look. This drink is usually aimed at the lower class of people because it was a drink in which a miner after a hard days work would have. Its affordable basically. People that research Guiness will learn that its not only beneficial for pleasure reasons, but its also been proven to be a good thing for the heart. The adverts that Guiness have produced throughtout the years of production have very good selling aspects to them because they are not always aimed at the product itself. One of the recent adverts which include a domino affect throughtout the advert with different objects dropping. The set out budget for the domino affect advert was £10 million. At the end of the advert we see a building covered with books that open up and form the Guiness logo. Not only have Guiness won awards for having the best adverts they have products and posters which do just aswell. The Guiness brand is iconic from special collection Beer Posters to keyrings etc.
Grizzly man: Film critique
This film is a powerful true story set on a man spending an amount of his life time around bears in which he through of as family. He started making a documentary about the scenario to capture the great aspects of these extraordinary animals. The tale about a man who ventures into the wilderness and gets attached to these animals is a man named Timothy Tread well who is actually a very brave and enthusiastic person. The type of person that he is, is very theatrical and dramatic in the way he approaches the camera. The sound track are set to seem very calm and nice. However there is another side to these creature that Timothy is aware of ans we experience this in the first five minutes of the film when he approached a bear and its not too Kean on being messed with or having any type of attention. Timothy quotes in the film 'I will protect these bears with my last breath' which shows the audience he is taking this very seriously. We do however see some sort of comical side to his outrageous expressions and use of tone when he is talking about the bears. I would call this man dedicated to what he believes in. 85hours of footage and 5 years of living around the bears made timothy and his girlfriend feel emotions and strong feelings for the bears. Timothy and his girlfriend have a huge shock towards the end of the filming when they reach a point that they are in a seriously and deadly situation which doesn't end in a nice way. This in which, leads them to death from the bears attack. The man was always close to death because near misses were just luck on behalf of him and his girlfriend. Audio was found when the bears attacked him and it was never leaked out because it was too horrific to hear which is an obviously factor. I however think that it wasn't the best way to go but he successfully made a truly unique documentary and got to spend time with the most valued creatures in his life.
The Collision- Montage Editing is a form of film editing cutting up a film into sequential. Basically rough cut editing. Alfred Hitchcock created a film called Psycho which uses a lot of suspense throughout the film and they produce this effect through montage editing. Psycho has demonstrates the rough yet bold effect to the film. Kuleshov effect he created an elision to make the audience feel somethings towards a bowl of soup or little girls in a coffin to express and get across to the audience that nothing needs to be said verbally the audience can figure it out. The bowl of soup was suppose to represent hunger and when I watched the shot film I didn't really have any thoughts about a sense of hunger and desperation to eat the bowl of soup. However the method what he created through filming objects and people showing no emotion through the camera was to make the audience feel what they wanted to feel about it. When I used Kuleshov to make a similar scenario We basically used a blank face which was mine to be zoomed up on and the face would have no emotion just for the audience to make out how the person was feeling. I though it was successful because we did capture the stress and upset in the clip.
Give them enough rope: The question that was used within the interviewing of how people believe in science and challenges them to either say something that they believe is true within the scientific world. Most of the interviewees were scientists or in had some involvement. The person that stood out to me in this Film was the foreign man who had a sense of humor and wasn't taking the question to seriously. Watching if they felt a certain amount of awkwardness in front of the camera and how to answer a question of random. There body language also gives us signs that the person may feel uncomfortable or just stuck for words. In my film I had to go out to the public and find out what they actually thought of teenagers today. We got some negative feedback from the older generation. They seemed to basically call us a hinder. From people my age they said that people in their teens are given a bad name and always associated with bad things, I.e drugs and alcohol. We had to use a tripod at all times to get an accurate picture of the person, and it also gives stability. In the film that consisted of the question ' do you think science is...?' made scientists think of how perceive what it is. The people filming it were trying to get as many opinions from different scientists in high or low hierarchy.
The journey: We made a piece of footage that would consists of different types of camera shots such as, a personal viewpoint shot, Navigation which means a journey with a person or object or just taking the audience on a journey. My group Me, Emily and Lucy made a jouney where I would make a jouney to the vending machine to retrieve a chocolate bar. It was all about the different shot we could get out of doing this activity. We managed to cram most of the shot that were important to contain into the shot film. For instance using close ups on my face to show the emotion of doing this and to catch my reactions. A mid shot of me at the vending machine and also Me making my way to the vending machine by foot.
My diary of my Documentary-
First day of filming: Today I spoke about how bulimia has effected my life and how hard its been for the past year and a half. This was very hard for me to come to senses with talking on camera.
Day 2: Today I went to costa and got a point of view from a close relative. She spoke about the illness and how people perceive the illness wrongly. I then came back home and filmed myself talking about my day to day routine.
Day 3: I went to a local river today where I usually go to get away from home and everything that frustrates me.

My Documentary:
The small projects such as, 'Give them enough rope', The collision, etc. I have found that these have given me good and valid knowledge to achieve a goo documentary.
This illustration of two models who I have based my inspiration on simply by the way they look. Perfection has influenced the way I am today. This is all through the media and certain campaigns like this one. The truth is this does seem mad looking back at what inspired me but at the time I felt really serious about this.
The idea that I went for was to base it on a percentage of myself explaining how I deal with the illness in a day to day diary set up. I will try to get a doctor to talk on my documentary to explain the illness of bulimia and the affects it can cause later down the line. My idea will be a hard pitch but I think it will help me in some form. I will give certain information throughout the film such as, My height, weight at the moment and how it changes from week to week. The awkward moments that I can capture. I decided to do this because I know that this will help me and may even help someone else. I like the fact that I have plucked up the courage to do this and show people how I live with such a taboo subject that shocks people because the perception from people or the stereotype is that only girls suffer with this. However it does occur in males too.
Certain areas I will not be willing to explore or even show in this documentary because its just too personal and I am not ready to tell people how I feel. I will be as honest as possible. I am trying to spread the word to people my age and anyone who is going through the illness themselves and give an insight.
My resources are based on secondary resource because people have heard of the illness and know the basic symptoms of it. The primary resource will be from myself explaining it.
In conclusion my pitch went particularly well because I did get positive feedback which gave me the drive to actually make this documentary something that is a very emotional journey with ups and downs. The fact of the matter is I have finished the documentary now and I hope this will all be a success, however I really don't know how I will face people in my class watching it.
The journey: We made a piece of footage that would consist of different type of camera shots such as, a personal viewpoint, Navigation which means a journey with the person or object or just taking the audience on a journey. My group me, Emily and Lucy made a journey were I would be the main person walking to the vending machine and buying something.
We managed to use every single shot that we could, for instance using close ups on my face and my reactions to every emotion that I have in the shot. A mid shot of me from the side of the vending machine. Me also making the journey to the destination.
Documentary Treatment:
My documentary is an emotional roller coaster with very strong emotions following throughout the documentary. The documentary will include a lot of honesty on behalf of myself. The documentary will follow my day to day life with having a controlling and testing illness of bulimia. It will be very informative also with professional information on the illness and some close relatives expressing their opinions on certain changes that they have seen in me over the past 2 years. The documentary will definitely not contain any graphic images of myself or footage. Its just too personal.
The documentary is about my problem with the illness, but its also to spread a word that its an illness which can effect your life later on and also killing all the vital muscles you need to stay alive. I.e the heart . The awareness and desperation of trying to give people whom are suffering with this illness or similar eating disorders will hopefully relate to me and if one person watches this and relates to it and persuades them to look for help then thats a huge achievement.
Using the camera as a friend and something that I can record what i've been doing and how I go through the day. It will be like 'a day in the life of' documentaries that follow a person or a topic. This subject really hits a nerve with some people because its seen as being a 'taboo' topic to talk and discuss about. This therefore makes me want to strive to make this an important matter. I hid away for two years before coming to my senses that I really do have a problem and I don't want to be in self-denial anymore. Many teens are suffering with this illness male/female. The number of people has risen through the 21st century simply because models and celebrities provide us with goals and aspirations in life. I am one of the many out there.
Being thin and muscular has been a huge ordeal for me to want to achieve a look that makes me happy. However once you get into the habit of an eating disorder you always want to go further. This was influenced by the media making pictures on magazines and billboards etc airbrushed and not the real image they took originally. However I am not against this because it has given me motivation to do things in life. The downside of this is, Im not a healthy person. Many days and nights of pain and anger have driven me to the state I am in today.
Being the size I am has given me opportunities to do jobs that I would have never got before. I have been approached by 2 model agency's has given me the motivation to lose more weight and go to the gym. I have always turned these down, Simply because the outcome is not what I want. Also I were to be at a normal weight I would be told to lose it.
This is a matter and territory that needs to be attacked because i've witnessed with my family, that in the past they have been worried and approached the problem in the wrong way which has really offended me.
Man on wire:
On August 7th 1974, a young Frenchman named Philippe Petit made a documentary on how he was going to do the biggest and most impressive stunt he had ever done. His life was basically on the line. The was to feel that he had achieved by doing this very dangerous walk from one end to the next of the wire. He had a huge crowd at the bottom of the magnificent twin towers.
This was a goal for Philippe to make as a life time achievement. His family/friends and fans of his felt at ease when he got into the middle. It was like he felt comfortable being out there, and this reflected on the people watching him. The film gained many awards including a BAFTA, Sundance film festival award and Academy award for best documentary feature etc. This film constructs a lot of very important emotions which you can feel through watching Man on wire. Personally I enjoyed this film because it has a lot of depth and movement. The main character holds a very strong enthusiastic presence of philippe's determination to succeed the goal of a life time.
Waiting room evaluation:
The film turned out as expected. However some aspects of the sequence could have been made to a better standard. For instance the sound could have been fluent and we had a silent bit in the later part of the film which was a mistake. We obviously know what the problems were with the film itself. The group feedback was positive although part of it could be tweaked and could have flowed better. I really like the part in the film where Adrienne walks into the camera with psycho background music. It gives a feeling of anger and disappear because the lift does not open. We used a calm sound track for most of the film to give the elevator feeling which actually gave the film an atmospheric feel.
The project was all about making a situation that was a long winded process however it was only supposed to be for a minute. In affect we produced a film that felt long but it really wasn't.
BBC vs ITV-
BBC has a vast range of radio stations nation wide. Also a collective amount of television channels. In the debate I was part of defending the BBC for it's more information and educational programms and radio stations. BBC has a more middle age feeling to it, where as ITV have a younger audience.
ITV does not realluy provide educational programms because its more to do with reality TV and more up to date with celebs and gossip. I would say ITV has more viewers than BBC purely to do with the programms it broadcasts.
BBC does not have commercials within its breaks of going to the next program. BBC is funded by the TV licencing fee that we have to pay to have the channels. Where as ITV earn their money off given advertisers an ad in the breaks. This generates money for ITV to spend more on programs etc. BBC is a public service which offers a factual form of information the the general public.
The coffee cup: single camera drama. The footage is at a maximum of 5 minutes.
The scenario we went for was an annoying person distraction a person who is trying to concentrate on reading a book. There is a sense of claustrophobic within the scene where I get really close to Lucy and basically sit really close to her and read over her shoulder. So in a way the film was showing a mature person and a very immature person. By showing lots of single shots of what Lucy was feeling about basically an annoyance that she was'nt expecting. When we show all these singular shots of Lucy and me trying to be involved with what she is reading the camera shits show it really well,
Single camera is used in television and film. In alot of television and film you will get muliple shots of single use camera. Single shot is take for an individual thing or something that may be stationary.
My name is Earl, Peep show and also a favourite of my The Addams family comedy television show. These tv shows let us really see how single camera shots are used. Multi camera shot came into trend after single because it showed a quick demonstration of how you can show emotions through film and to get this you could get reactions from people and for quick movement aswell.
Gestalt: Dream/flashback sequence
We made a day for night sequence which was shot in the day but actually had the feeling of the dream like sequence in the night. This was created by turning down an effect on the camera which changed the lighting so it was hardly visiable to see day light. It created a dusk effect. Our film also had to include a flashback.
We did a sequnce that consisted of a frightened and fragile person trying to get out of the woods. We also used coloured circles to create a dreamy and unrealistic. The flashback which we created was for the person who was the victim to have a certain amount of paranoia about themselves. We did the flashback in black and white to give it a more spooky feel to the film.
Gestalt is a theory thats captures an essence or shape to complete somthing. The English term 'Gestalt' means wholeness. Gestaltism means that its structured in a psychological way or form. We used whole forms in our filming which were multiple circles each with their own colour. This was giving a whole form of something within the filming, instead of using straight lines or edged objects.
Circles are whole shapes. Over all I think the film turned out to be a great film and unique because it has so many qualities about it and we kept to the storyboard as planned.
What is single camera Drama?
Single camera is used in Television and Film. The production of the technique is to cut from each scene to a different scene. So if one person is talking to another they can cut after the person finishes and cuts back to the person with a reply.
In game shows this technique is used frequently to give an atmospheric feel to the show.
An alternative method to used is multiple camera setup. This will have a setup of two or more cameras.
Single camera use in my mind is shown very well through the television programme 'Peep show' .
Mise-en-scene
The theory of 'Mise-en-scene' is without speech or narration throughout the film. This is suppose to give make you basically think for yourself as to what is going on in the film. Wild-tracks are used other than having a person talking. And having a object or anything that gives a significant value to someone can also make people see the more emotional side of the filming and use your imagination. The term Mise-en-scene is a literal term. A lot of films have it in the middle or at the end to create a very emotional or meaningfulness scene. Creating a wider amount of space within the film is done very well in a film called 'Travelling Players'.
The french pronunciation in short means 'placing on stage'. The key things about Mise-en-scene is
:Costume :Set :Space :Acting :Lighting
These are all the key aspects to create a mise en scene film or production. Framing is also another really important factor because you need to get the movement in between each shot.
